In all three of these chapters we see some new symbolic symbols and changes within some characters. Even thought is was a short chapter in 15 we see Rahim Khan talking about the destruction of Amir’s fathers old orphanage, and how it was done bye the “Alliance.” I think this was eye opening for Amir to hear about and really made him feel bad for Baba, since he originally created it. With this it almost seems as Rahim is becoming a father figure for Amir in the absence of Baba. Which is much needed for Amir more than ever. In chapter 16 we begin to re enter Hassan’s life again. Now seeing that he has a wife and a decent life. Hassan, despite all that he and Amir have been through, I almost think he still cares for Amir. This is shown when throughout the chapter he asks Rahim what life is like for Amir now, and then finally makes the decision with his wife to leave with Rahim. Another symbolic moment that I thought was interesting was when Hassan teaches his son how to shoot the slingshot, just like Hassan was his father did.
In these 3 chapters we see Amir return to Taliban Ruled Afghanistan, we see him meet Rahim Khan in his last few months of life, he learns about Hassan's death, his wife and how Hassan has a son that he must go and save. These 3 chapters are very emotional, Amir sees Rahim Khan, his fathers best friend and business partner slowly dying and coughing up blood. He gets letters from Hassan that seem to be very positive dispute their bitter departure about how he would love to see him and how Hassan started a family and then we are told how Hassan and his wife were murdered by the Taliban and Hassans son is the only surviving member of his family and Amir is the only capable person to make the journey to save him. If I was Amir and put in this situation I would not save Hassan's son because in order to go and get him I would be risking so much, Amir has a stable job, happy family and promising future and he is throwing all of that away to risk his life for the son of his childhood frenemy. I do think that Amir will make the journey to save hassan's son because there is so much left in the book and that seems like the only thing that they could continue writing this story about.
Rahim Khan talks about how when the Taliban had come they looked like heroes to many people of Kabul, but knowing the historical context we will see as time goes on that this is not the case for much longer. We now learned that Hassan has been living with Rahim Khan in Baba's house, we saw this foreshadowing in earlier chapters when Amir had a dream about Hassan and they were running in the snow together. How do you think you would have reacted if you were in Amir’s situation, now seeing Hassan for the first time in many years? In the following chapter we see Rahim Khan's point of view on how he found Hassan and I find it interesting that Hassan and Farzana decided to come to Kabul. The historical context leads us to believe it was dangerous in Kabul and not a good place to raise a child. When the story focuses on what is going on in Hassan's life now that Sohrab is born we start to see how Hassan still kind of looks up to Amir and wants to be like him. Hassan also tells his son about Amir for example how good of a Kite Runner Amir was. At the beginning of Chapter 17 we see Amir start to have a lot of memories come back to him that involves Hassan. We never got to really hear much about Hassan after Amir and Baba left Kabul. When Rahim Khan tells Amir who Hassan's real father is Amir gets furious. I would feel the same way if I was just finding something like this out. Baba didn't want Amir to know this and that's why he never told him but Rahim Khan telling Amir was something that Baba definitely wouldn't have wanted. Why did Amir have to hear this from Rahim Khan and not Baba? -Saer Sicignano
In these chapters, Amir goes to visit Afghanstain finding out it’s in ruin. He visits Rham Khan and they speak on Abba’s death. Rham Khan speaks on how his life was killed by the Taliban. At this point in the book the country of Afghanstain is run by different groups that controlled different territories. Rham Khan was dying as well. He spoke of how after Abba and Amir left Rham Khan lived with Hassan. Amir met with Hassan and both men spoke of their different lives. What I can take from these chapters is the fact that Amir is trying to revisit his past. Amir lives this happy life in America where he has a good job and a happy lifestyle. With the closure and acceptance of his past. This way he could close the last chapter of his life.
These three chapters are interesting because of how emotional they are. We traveled back to Afghanistan which is under control by the Taliban. Then later we visit Rahim Khan who we see is dying and doesn't have a lot of time to live. I am surprised that Amir decided to come back because he had a good life in America. For example he had a good job, a wife, a kid and he forgot about his past.
Ok here we go again chapter 15 begins with the Taliban around,People stupidly thought that they were going to help them but soon realize how wrong they were.Rahin was shot by one of them.Later in chapter 16 we figure out that Hassan´s father died and that Hassan has a child who he teaches how to fly kite like he did.It seems that Hassan doesnt hold any sort trama with his past if he still in spite of what happened in the competition. And seems to actually be a great father,in chapter 17 we learn that Hassan and his wife were killed by the Taliban.Amir when he learns this he is no determined to write his horrible wrongs and save Hassan´s kid. -Diogo Alarcon
in chapter 1, i was surprised to find out that baba could have been the father of Hassan, Amir is mad at Baba for not telling him that hassan is his brother. I believe that their relationship with one another if Baba had told either one of them. During this chapter, amir also goes in search of Hassan’s son because he feels partly responsible for his dad’s death
In chapter 19, Amir gets car sick while he is in the taxi because of the guilt he feels while headed toward Kabul. During this chapter, Amir ended up crashing at Farid’s brother's place. Amir has a dream during the night about shooting hassan. Having a dream about shooting your best friend strikes me as odd. Why would he think about doing something so awful. At the end of the chapter Amir leaves money under the mattress for the family as a way of thanking them and because he thinks that this will help his guilt from Hassan go away.
In chapter 20, Amir and Farid head to Kabul in search of Hassan's son. The village that Amir once called home was now demolished and dangerous. At first Amir couldn't even recognize Kaboul because it looked so bad, he soon realized that the war had affected Kabul so much. They go searching into a run down orphanage thinking that they will find Sohrab, but instead Amir meets a woman that happened to know Amir’s mother. The lady was able to tell Amir about his mother because she used to teach her years ago. -Yanna
We headed back to Afghanistan, which is controlled by the Taliban, in this chapter, which was quite upsetting. Later, we go to see Rahim Khan, who is dying and doesn't have much time left. What I can deduce from these chapters is that Amir is attempting to reconnect with his past. Amir enjoys a pleasant existence in America, where he has a nice career and a comfortable lifestyle. With the acceptance and closure of his history. In this way, he could bring his life's final chapter to a close.
