  1. In chapter 11 of the Kite Runner, Amir and Baba are now in America. AMir is in junior college in which he will be studying literature. He now lives the projection of what the American Dream is. In the escape of Afghanstain, Abba still wishes that Hassan would be there with them. Baba appears to be sceptical with Amir about the general's daughter. In this chapter we see how Life is in the USA. As we see so far Baba now lives a life with his son in peace.

  2. Baba finds it much different and hard to adjust to american culter. When he goes to the market and freaks out on the workers because they don't trust him Amir has to come and sort things out so they don't call the police. Baba starts working in a Gas Station. I don't understand how baba was so rich in Kabul but now he has to work at a gas station. Is a lot of money in Kabul and little amount in America? When he was escaping did he lose it all? We can start to see Amir coming to an age we he has matured and grown as a person. He starts having to look after Baba more often and is more accustomed to American culture.

  3. In chapter 11 the main focus and highlight for me was the difference for Amir’s life in America compared to Pakistan. Even though in Pakistan Amir and his father had more money, I think they enjoy America more because of the freedom it presents to them. Also for Amir induvaly he seems less stressed out and seems to be faced with less occurring problems in his life. I mean I'm not saying it’s perfect, he and Baba struggle to adjust to the idea and culture of America. But I feel like there are less serious and threatening problems to both him and Baba in America. Along with this in this chapter we are introduced to Soraya when she sees Amir. I am not really sure what to think of Soraya ,yet due to the lack of her presents in the book so far. But I do think Amir and her will form some sort of relationship, since Amir seems to like her.

  4. In chapter 11 we learn that Baba and Amir have made it out of the middle east and are now trying to make a living in California. We get to see how this drastic change in the cultural environment deeply affects both Amir and Baba. Amir seems to enjoy being away from the Middle east and hopeful about this new life he is starting in a free country. However, Baba seems to be a little bit distressed, this new world is so different from where he grew up in and he has trouble making the jump to a more advanced society (we see an example of this when he gets upset when the cashier asks for his ID).

  5. In these chapters we notice that Amir and Baba's life is getting worse day by day. For example they had to spend a week in a dark basement with 30 people. The basement was also filled with rats and they barely had any food to eat. After the week they are told that the truck that was supposed to take them was beyond repair. This shows how much worse life has gotten for Amir and Baba.

  6. :It seems like in this chapter Amir and Baba move to America to start a new life. They seem to have trouble adjusting with their new lives in California especially Baba since he is not used to the advanced technology that they have here compared to Pakistan. But with these negatives comes good positives too.Like for Amir its a fresh start where he can forget about his life in Pakistan and the mistakes that he did with Hassan. He also falls for General Taheri´s daughter Soraya and even gets a used car from Baba.

  7. Amir seems to have become a better person although still plagued by his past deeds. He does not crave his fathers love and attention the way he did when he was younger which may be because Hassan is gone and there is no “competition” or he has simply matured. Amirs father has a lot of anger for anyone who he thinks is questioning his honesty and has an enormous amount of pride.

  8. We see here that Amir takes on more responsibilities and he becomes more mature. In chapter 12 we see Baba get diagnosed with cancer which foreshadows his death in chapter 13. Even though Baba has cancer in chapter 12, he is still able to go places with his son like the bar, where Amir meets Soraya.Amir ends up marrying Soraya in chapter 13, before Baba's death. I thought it was very generous for Baba to give almost all of his life savings to Amir and his wife for their wedding, it shows how kind of a person Baba was. In chapter 14, Amir and Soraya try to have a baby, but can't. Amir believes that this is his own fault because of what happened with Hassan and him as kids.

  9. Baba finds American culture to be quite foreign and difficult to adapt to. When he goes to the market and freaks out on the workers because they don't trust him, Amir needs to come in and smooth things out so that the workers don't call the cops. Amir's father gets enraged by anyone who questions his honesty and is quite proud.Rats were also swarming the basement, and there was barely enough food for them to consume.
