Week 2, Post 1 (#4)

  1. In these chapters we see Hassan and Ali leave Baba and Amir. Amir has never seen Baba like this before. For example Baba cried when Ali said that they are not going to stay with him. Amir feels so bad because he was only trying to help Hassan by giving him a watch and some money. Hassan takes the blame for stealing the watch and the money. I wonder why Amir didn't say anything about giving Hassan the watch and money.

  2. In chapter 9, Amir now intends to destroy Hassans reputation with Amir’s father. Amir wants to plant the money and watch he received for his birthday party in Hassan's living quarters. With this Hassan lies about stealing the money and watches Amir’s father. At the end Baba forgives him, but Hassan and Ali decide to leave. In this chapter we learn of how Amir's continued jealousy rocks his and Hassan’s relationship. I have a prediction that Hassan leaves and closes that door. Which then foreshadows the end of their relationship.
In chapter 10, we are now in March 1981, Kabul. We are now 5 years into the future. Amir and Baba must escape Kabul from the Russians. Baba stands up for the women the russian is trying to rape. Amir shows his cowardce personality once again. At this point, Amir recounts his memories with Hassan. Amir is now struggling with the traumatic tramas of his present and the memories of his past.

  3. In these chapters a lot of changes happen starting with mainly Amir coming up with a plan to try and frame Hassan. Amir knows how important Ali and Hassan are to Baba but still has a desire for all the attention. Amir puts a watch and some money (from his birthday gifts) into Hassan's quarters. Even though Baba forgives Hassan, Ali still decided to leave. I think this is what had to be done because of how jealous/envious Amir was, do you agree? We then go to 5 years later where Amir and Baba need to get out of Kabul. Baba apologizes for Amir’s car sickness. -Saer Sicignano

  4. In these two chapters we see Hassan leave Amir and baba, as sad as this event is supposed to be, Amir is not very sad about it. He has known hassam since birth and now that he is leaving he doesn't seem that sad about it, I don't really understand why Amir was so mean to Hassan, Hassan never meant any harm, he was a good, loyal, trusting friend and Amir just got rid of that for seemingly no reason. Later, in chapter 10 we see Amir and Baba fleeing Kabul 5 years after Hassan left. On their treacherous journey they have to go through many dangerous checkpoints to get to pakistan and even though Amir is now 18 he still sees baba as a “god” figure, he admires him just as much as he did when he was a child and seeing baba risk his life for some stranger and watching him nearly strangle a man to death in his rage amplifies that “awe” for him.

  5. Ok here we go again with the villain Amir he just keeps on giving me material to work with here.In these chapters he is at it again now he is try to frame Hassan and his Dad by giving them the presents and then telling his dad that they stole it.Which cause His dad and Hassan to leave Amir. And how strange is it that Hassan feels bad when he recalling the story of his dad leaving to escape to pakistan and his dad defending a lady who was threatened by a German soldier
Hmm...I don't really understand why Amir is screwing over Hassan so much and at the same time feeling bad for what he is doing to him.

  6. : I think in both chapters 10 and 9 we continue to see a separation between Hassan and Amir, after what happened to Hassan. I think Amir is the true negative factor in their relationship because he counts to block Hassan off, and not allow him into his life. We also see Amir tell us an important story about how he and his father got to Pakistan. I think this gives of more of an understanding of Amir and what he has been through.

  7. Baba finds it much different and hard to adjust to american culter. When he goes to the market and freaks out on the workers because they don't trust him Amir has to come and sort things out so they don't call the police. Baba starts working in a Gas Station. I don't understand how baba was so rich in Kabul but now he has to work at a gas station. Is a lot of money in Kabul and little amount in America? When he was escaping did he lose it all? We can start to see Amir coming to an age we he has matured and grown as a person. He starts having to look after Baba more often and is more accustomed to American culture.

  8. Amir starts to see suffering and people around him die. He sees the horrors of what happened to Afghanistan and its people. Amir’s dad is somewhat of a hero what also gets very mad and almost kills their driver.

  9. in chapter 9, we can see the last moments of Amir and Hassans childhood friendship, when Amir doesn't admit to giving the watch to Hassan and Hassan is blamed for stealing it. At that point in the story Hassan knew that Amir was there in the alley when he got raped, Amir hasnt been a good friend to him latley. Why would Hassan take the blame for something he didn't do, even after Amir has treated him poorly?

  10. People around Amir start to die, and Amir begins to see misery. He witnesses the atrocities committed on Afghanistan as well as its people. Amir's father, a hero in his own right, becomes enraged and nearly murders their driver.
